Nuclear Security

Adhering to international nuclear security standards so that our nation remains safe.

At FANR we develop regulations to protect the use, storage and transport of nuclear materials and facilities. These regulations include provisions for the prevention, early detection and response to actions that may result in both the unauthorised removal and diversion of radioactive materials and equipment subject to control, and may lead to incidents with radiological consequences.

Although FANR is also responsible for ensuring that all users of radioactive materials and facilities comply with the established regulations, the responsibility for providing the protection of nuclear materials or facilities against sabotage, theft and diversion, as well as recovery, rests with the operator.

FANR adheres to implementing international nuclear security and physical protection agreements including the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material in line with the UAE's White Paper entitled the ‘Policy of the United Arab Emirates on the Evaluation and Potential Development of Peaceful Nuclear Energy’.
