The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) hosted an expert mission titled Radionuclides in food and drinking water in non-emergency situations"  from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) including experts from the United Kingdom and the People's Republic of China to discuss environmental radiation monitoring of food and drinking water.

The international experts demonstrated their countries' activities and methodologies for monitoring of radionuclides present in food and drinking water, including sampling strategies, guidelines for different types of foods, technical review on radioactivity measurement, and dose assessment from ingestion of radionuclides, among other technical aspects.

FANR and the mission members explored methods to enhance the UAE's radiation monitoring infrastructure so as to ensure that radiation in food and drinking water are within safe levels, ensuring the protection of the public and environment.

Furthermore, FANR showcased the UAE's Environmental Monitoring Programme, facilitated by 17 radiation monitoring stations situated across the country, and the Environmental Laboratory which monitors radioactivity in environmental samples and supports the country's capacity building efforts in radiation monitoring.
