Mar 12, 2025The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) is taking part in the 37th Regulatory Information Conference (RIC) organized and hosted by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in Washington D.C. from 11th to 13th of March.
More than 3,000 international experts and policy makers representing over 40 countries are gathering to discuss a wide range of topics relating to the nuclear sector, such as reactor licensing, advanced nuclear technologies, addressing risks posed to nuclear facilities by external hazards, and developing the capacities of the next generation of nuclear professionals, among other aspects.
FANR's Nuclear Safety Director Sara Al Saadi will deliver a presentation titled “Approaches For Addressing Evolving External Hazards In Nuclear Power: From UAE Perspective", shedding light on the efforts taken by the UAE to ensure the protection of nuclear facilities from the effects of external hazards including climate change, such as FANR's ongoing development of the Intelligent Operational Nuclear Safety (IONS) system that will provide real-time satellite monitoring of climate conditions in the region.
On the margins of the conference, FANR will meet with its partners from the US NRC, Finland's STUK, and the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority to discuss cooperation in nuclear safety, harmonization of regulatory frameworks, waste management, and other technical aspects.
