"On Emirati Women's Day...we celebrate mothers, sisters,
wives and daughters," His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum once
said. This year's commemoration, as announced by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima
Bint Mubarak, will be held under the theme of "Inspiring Reality..Sustainable
Future".
Emirati Women's Day was inaugurated in 2015, and has been annually commemorated since then, on 28th
August. This is in line with the UAE's mission to empower Emirati women in all
walks of life, from engineering, to healthcare, to industry, among others. In
accordance with this, the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has
been committed to empowering women in the UAE's nuclear and radiological
sectors since its establishment in 2009.
In line with the UAE's vision for gender balance and the
empowerment of women, FANR has encouraged the development of Emirati women in
the field of nuclear regulation. FANR
developed and implemented a number of capacity-building programmes to empower
Emiratis, especially women to regulate the sector. Emirati women have been
successfully demonstrated their capability to regulate the sector in the UAE;
and we are proud to have among us Mariam Saeed Al Dhaheri, Mariam Saleh Al
Khoori, and Amal Saif Ahmed, the first three Emirati women in Nuclear Law; Huda
Al Tamimi, the first Emirati woman to be recognized as an international nuclear
non-proliferation inspector, and Dr. Jamila Al Suwaidi, the first Emirati woman
to obtain a PhD in the field of nuclear engineering and many more among us.
We are committed to meet the nation's growing energy needs
and by having the necessary programmes to empower Emiratis and women in
particular to ensure the sustainability of the regulator activities. To date, women
comprise 44% of FANR's overall workforce, while holding 43% of leadership
positions. Our march towards to the future will continue with the relentless
efforts of FANR's Emirati caliber.
