May 14, 2018

14 May 2018, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The United Arab Emirate's Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) released a draft radiation safety regulation and invited the public to review the draft and comment.

FANR revised Regulation 04 for Radiation Dose Limits and Optimisation of Radiation Protection for Nuclear Facilities, which establishes the radiation dose limits that are relevant to a nuclear facility during its design, construction, and normal operation and decommissioning.

The newly revised regulation aims to be consistent with the radiation dose limits cited in FANR-REG-24 Revision 1 related to the annual Equivalent Dose in the lens of the eye of a worker in accordance with International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP).

The draft regulation is available on the FANR website (www.fanr.gov.ae). Members of the public are invited to send their comments to the following email: regulation@fanr.gov.ae for the next 30 days (from 15 May to 15 June 2018). FANR's Safety, Security and Safeguards Glossary  can help the public to understand the specific terminology used in this regulation. FANR will consider all comments before preparing the final draft.

As with previous regulations and regulatory guides, this draft regulation has already been made available for 30 days to local and federal government entities for their comments.

FANR recognizes the importance of the public's opinion and feedback on all regulations issued reflecting the authority transparency standards that support its mission to protect workers, public and the environment.
