FANR showcases regulatory framework with its licensees in the UAE

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has recently held its flagship annual event ‘Meet Your Regulator’, to share its regulatory experience with its licensees and discuss requirements to strengthen safety and security culture in peaceful use of ionizing radiation in the UAE.

Over 1,200 participants took part in the sessions to learn about the latest regulatory requirements, representing medical and industrial sectors. The event consisted of five sessions covering various topics.

Session included general update on FANR’s regulatory framework including some of the measures taken by FANR during the Covid19 pandemic, introducing the new smart licensing system as well as customer relations system (WASL). Other sessions touched on various topics such as licensing process and requirements, safety assessment, medical waste management, implementation of radiation protection programme and safety culture amongst others.

The ‘Meet Your Regulator’ event drew over 95% satisfaction rate from the participants.

FANR, set up in 2009, is the regulatory body for the nuclear and radiation sectors in the United Arab Emirates. It regulates all nuclear activities and licenses the use of radioactive sources in the UAE. FANR has over 3500 licensees covering medical and industrial sectors where they benefit from the smart systems, provided by FANR, to facilitate their business in accordance with UAE laws and regulatory requirements.
